eCommerce Fraud Prevention Options
Common fraud-fighting options listed below are available from many popular gateway providers. The gateway you are using may not have some of these options or they may be listed under a different name. If you have any questions or are having trouble setting any of these features please call us at 866-510-2267 Option 3 or email Tech@BAMS.com.
Basic Fraud Prevention:
– Enable Address Verification System (AVS) and Card Verification Value (CVV) Filters
+ Ship only to the AVS matched billing address for higher security
+ Set transaction to decline if CVV and AVS don’t match
+ Use enhanced AVS/CVV handling filters when offered as a feature by your gateway, in order to have more control over how an AVS/CVV mismatch is handled
Advanced Filters –
– Enable Velocity Filters – to limit how many times authorizations can be attempted
+ Specify a limit for the number of authorizations that are allowed Per Day, Per Hour, and/or
Per IP address
+ This can be used to prevent fraud such as excessive card testing, bot attacks.
+ Multiply the average amount of transactions that you receive daily by 1.25 to find the optimal
Daily limit. For example, if the average is 100 transactions a day, you can set the filter to
decline or hold any transactions pending review past 125.
– Enable Amount Filters – to limit high-risk transactions that may be linked to fraud
+ Set a minimum limit of at least $2 or the lowest cost item for your business.
+ Set a maximum limit based on the highest cost item or previous sales history.
– Enable IP Blocking Filters
+ Ability to block IP addresses that you find to be fraudulent
+ Ability to block Regional IPs from specific regions and/or countries.
+ If you don’t do business with certain regions or countries, a good fraud prevention option
would be to block all transactions coming from those regions or countries.
