Do You Receive Next-Day Funding with Your Merchant Account?

Last Updated on October 2, 2026 by Dimitri Akhrin

Not all merchant accounts are created equal. From fees to support to hardware, countless factors determine which one is best for your business. One of the most important is fund availability: how quickly your payment processor deposits the money from your sales into your bank account. Funding speed varies from provider to provider. If your business depends on steady cash flow, next day funding belongs near the top of your checklist when you choose a processor.

TL;DR

  • Funding speed varies by provider – Many traditional merchant accounts take two or three business days to release card funds.
  • Next day funding pays you the next business day – Batches closed before the processor’s cutoff are deposited the following business day for eligible merchants.
  • Weekend sellers feel the difference most – Friday evening sales can reach the bank Monday morning instead of Tuesday or Wednesday.
  • Not every processor or merchant qualifies – Availability depends on the provider’s deposit structure and your business and processing history.
  • BAMS funds by 7 AM EST – Eligible batches closed before 9 PM EST are available by 7 AM EST the next business day with no additional fee.

What Is Next Day Funding?

Next day funding means the money from your card transactions becomes available in your bank account the business day after you batch them. Your customer’s card is authorized in seconds, but the funds still have to clear and settle before your processor deposits them. Next day funding shortens that settlement window to a single business day.

Several factors determine whether next day funding is available, including the payment provider’s deposit structure and the card brands it covers. Not every provider offers it. Many traditional merchant accounts take two and sometimes three business days before funds from card transactions become available.

Processors also look at the merchant. Holds help protect the acquiring side against chargebacks and fraud. The OCC’s Comptroller’s Handbook on merchant processing notes that when a merchant cannot honor its chargebacks, the acquiring bank must pay the card-issuing bank. That’s why next day funding usually goes to merchants with a solid business and processing history. If your company qualifies but your processor doesn’t offer next day funding, switching to one that does can make a real difference.

Benefits of Next Day Funding

The obvious benefit of next day funding is that you get your money faster. Cash is everything in business and plenty of otherwise great companies have run into serious trouble because their cash flow was choked off. In the Federal Reserve’s 2025 Small Business Credit Survey of employer firms, 51% of firms cited uneven cash flow as a financial challenge and 56% said paying operating expenses was a challenge.

Next day funding helps keep cash moving so it’s easier to meet payroll, settle accounts on time and take advantage of early payment discounts from vendors. The U.S. Small Business Administration’s guide to managing business finances notes that looking closely at money in and money out helps maintain a sustainable balance between profit and loss. Faster, more predictable deposits make that balance easier to manage.

Next day funding is especially important for businesses with heavy weekend sales, like restaurants and bars. Without it, the money from a Friday evening sale might not hit the bank until Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week. With next day funding, eligible funds from Friday batches are in the bank Monday morning. For a business that depends on weekend revenue, getting that money a few days earlier matters a lot.

BAMS Next Day Funding Deposit Structure

Next day funding applies to Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express and ACH payments with no additional fee for next day transfers. Transactions batched after 9 PM EST move to the following business day’s deposit and are available by 7 AM EST the day after that.
